The most visited chateaux are (in order) Chenonceaux
built out over the river Cher, the great Chambord,
designed in part by Leonardo da Vinci, the chateau at Amboise,
and Azay le
Rideau on an island on the river Indre.
Other major châteaux, but generally less crowded,
the royal fortress at Chinon,
which is rather different, and Cheverny.

There are dozens more châteaux in the area, some
small, some large: among these, also worth visiting are
the châteaux at Saumur,
Langeais, Blois, and Sully
sur Loire to the east of Orleans.

is in many cases quite normal, it is not always the case. The Loire
valley itself became popular in the olden days with the Kings and
nobles of France, on account of its mild climate: and like its
neighbour to the east, Burgundy, it was a region that provided wine for
the inhabitants of Paris and the north of France.

the French Revolution. It is located in Chenonceaux, within walking
