  The * Hotel Marignan is very cheap by central Paris standards, but gets good reviews. Quiet location in small street close to the Sorbonne. 400 metres from Notre Dame and 150 m from a metro station. Prices include breakfast. Free wifi. No lift (no elevator). A low price budget hotel in central Paris, which is rare.

  The ***** Saint James Hotel claims to be the only chateau hotel in Paris, which is doubtless true. With its Michelin starred restaurant, this five-star luxury hotel has 22 exquisitely decorated rooms. Built in the 19th century, it is a genuine small chateau, standing in its own grounds, "an architectural jewel tucked away from prying eyes, in Paris’ most exclusive district"
• 16th Arondissement - Near Trocadero - Metro Passy
  Officially the Hotel Nicolo has a two-star rating; but this refined boutique hotel is better than many with 3 or 4 stars. 28 rooms, and a quiet location in a small street 600 metres from the Trocadero, and in walking distance of the Eiffel Tower. Don't expect two star prices; but this hotel is good value for what it offers, and considering its location.

  The Maison Albar Hotel Champs-Elysées is a reasonably-priced small (40 rooms) five star hotel in a quiet location 200 metres from the Champs Elysées and  Arc de Triomphe. Friendly and helpful staff. Elegantly decorated soundproofed rooms. Air-con, non-smoking, facilities for the disabled. Cheap by 5-star standards.

North central Paris (Clichy, Montmartre, Pigalle, Gare du Nord ...)

• €  17th Arondissement - Clichy -  Metro Place de Clichy
  The ** Hotel Darcet is a small hotel with 32 rooms located in the vibrant quarter of Clichy, just off the Boulevard des Batignolles. Plenty of bars and restaurants close by. The hotel gets top marks all round, and offers great value for money by Parisian standards. Easy access to Montmartre and Pigalle

Southwest central Paris (Eiffel tower area - south of the Seine)

• 7th Arondissement - Saint Germain - Metro Ecole Militaire
  The ** Hotel Eiffel Turenne is a quality ** hotel 200 metres from Les Invalides and 1200 metres from the Eiffel Tower. 34 air conditioned rooms. Bars, restaurants and shops close by. Quiet location, friendly reception, and lots of good reviews for this hotel.
• 15th Arondissement - Grenelle - Metro Dupleix
  The ** Hotel Eiffel XV is 900 metres from the Eiffel Tower and 200 metres from the Metro. Plenty of restaurants in easy walking distance. 46 rooms. Rooms with coffee making facilities. Friendly staff. Good value considering the location. Good wifi. 4 floors, but no lift / no elevator.

East central Paris (Gare de Lyon, Bastille, Nation, la Villette..)

• 12th Arondissement - Near Gare de Lyon
  The ** Hotel de Venise is a clean friendly and welcoming family-run hotel with 30 rooms. It is located in a quiet street 350 metres from metro station. The rooms are small, but you cannot expect big rooms at the price; good breakfasts..
• €  20th Arondissement - Near Père Lachaise - Metro Gambetta
  The * Hotel Nadaud is a bit off-center, but 250 metres from Gambeta metro station (line 3) .But it seems hard to find better value for money than this in Paris. Clean and comfortable 1-star hotel with very helpful staff and excellent reviews. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Lift. Upper floor rooms are quietest.

South central Paris  (Montparnasse,  Place d'Italie... )

• 13th Arondissement - Tolbiac - Metro Olympiades
  The - is a resolutely modern  *** hotel, stylishly designed for young urban travellers. The hotel has 32 rooms, and is in a vibrant quarter of Paris just 100 yards from the Olympiades metro station. Rooms are equipped with USB chargers.
• € 13th Arondissement - Place d'Italie - Metro Place d'Italie
  The ** Hotel Neptune offers good value for money by Paris standards. This clean 25-room hotel is in a quiet street just 150 metres from Place d'Italie, with its good metro connections. Former Chinese premier Chou En Lai lived in this building from 1922 to 1924 ! Close to Paris's Chinatown.
