• London SE1 - south Bank,  near Waterloo
  The Mad Hatter hotel. ***  This three star hotel is conveniently located close to the national Theatre, the Tate Modern, and the London Eye. Within walking distance of Westminster. It has a restaurant and bar, and gets very favourable reviews. 
  
• London WC1, near museums & theatres
  €€€ Bloomsbury Hotel **** Four star hotel, four star prices, but invariably good write-ups for this hotel close to the British Museum, Covent Garden and the theater district. Easy access to most of central London. 
• London WC1, near museums & theatres
   €   cheap and friendly
  St. Athan's hotel  * Very good value for a small central London hotel. Located on a side street in walking distance of Euston, St Pancras and Kings Cross stations, and the British Museum and university area. Friendly family-owned hotel; rooms small but clean and comfortable.
• London W2, near Hyde Park
  London Guards Hotel *** In a quiet location 200 metres from Hyde Park, & near Lancaster Gate tube station. Nothing fancy here, but quiet location and good value for money. For the price, you won't find much better in the West End. 
• London SW3, near Hyde Park
  €€€€  Knightsbridge Hotel ***** Top quality luxury hotel in a quiet location in the West End, within easy distance of Harrod's, London's greatest department store. 44 refined ensuite bedrooms,drawing room, library. The restaurant can cater for people with special dietary needs.
• London SW7, Kensington & Chelsea
  €€€€  Adria Hotel ***** Chic boutique hotel with 24 rooms, just ten minutes walk from the Natural History museum, V&A and Science museum. Very refined décor; restaurant, garden, facilities for the disabled. Good value for a top quality central London hotel. The restaurant can cater for people with special dietary needs.

   €  Tudor Court Hotel *** This small hotel with 38 rooms is on a leafy sidestreet between Paddington station and Hyde Park, 2 minutes from the Underground. Some rooms with shared bathroom for the budget-conscious.  A convenient and fairly central location. Good reviews

Hotels close to central London

• North London - Camden
   €   Easy access to the West End
  Charlotte guest house  In a residential area just 20 minutes by bus from Regent St. A fairly basic but friendly small b&b hotel recommended mainly on account of its bargain prices. No car parking facilities.
• North-west London - Hendon
  Just 2 minutes' walk to Hendon Central underground station
  ****  The Hide  Top customer reviews for the small four-star hotel with easy access to central London.  Great value for money in this upscale hotel where prices include breakfast,  P  free car parking, and free wifi.  Easy access to M1 and North Circular road. The only downside is that this hotel is on a busy road.

Hotels on the outskirts of London

• Sutton, Surrey
  The ** Thatched House Hotel.  Quiet 24-room hotel with  P  free car parking. Friendly atmosphere, garden, restaurant, good value for money (Note; this hotel may quote room rates for a minimum of two nights ). Located in walking distance from the centre of Sutton, a pleasant suburban area, and the train station, for easy access to Central London.
• Northwest London - Pinner - Harrow
  the **** Grimsdyke hotel is a gem, and good value. Built by WS Gilbert (of Gilbert and Sullivan fame), this is a classic Victorian mansion and a listed building with masses of character. It stands in 40 acres of grounds, with lovely gardens and plenty of  P  free parking. Bar and restaurant. 47 rooms. Hatch End station is 5 minutes by car -  free parking in the residential streets north of A410 before reaching the station. 
• Southeast London
  Easy access from Dover direction
  Sundridge Park Manor *** A fine suburban stately home, standing in its own grounds. Fabulous setting,  P  free parking. Restaurant, bar, free wifi. Recommended from Monday to Friday morning, because the hotel is heavily booked for weddings and functions over the weekend. Station 800 yards, with trains to central London in 20 minutes.
